This is a classic example of me taking a simple idea and running with it. I think I was scrapping to come up with an album title and for some reason I was listening to THIS Coil album. Thus Astral Disaster become Astral Disasters. I had already had some outer space imagery with the girls, so I figured why not go all the way.
To me the best part of the gag is that Tiara is an alien instead of wearing a space helmet. I think I was mentally going for a kind of Mike Allred style antenna there.
So okay, I don’t generally go in for super hero comics. But Mike Allred’s run on X-Force are some of my favorite comics ever. It was just so over the top violent and yet rendered in such lush colors. I couldn’t NOT love it.
