So let’s add another element to the discussion. I previously mentioned how much Aaron Cometbus‘ Despite Everything weighed in on the writing of Jam in the Band. But one of the other crucial books in this production was Henry Rollins‘ Get in the Van. That being his diaries of being on the road with Black Flag. Again, it’s these stories of being on the road with a band that inform Jam in the Band. I just have this romantic notion of that experience.
